A playground a day – day 5

Name of playground Monks Hill
location Hill Head Fareham
Parking yes
Toilets yes

So technically Monks Hill isn’t a playground, its a stretch of shingle beach close to Gosport but as far as my children are concerned it’s a playground. My girls and their slightly older cousins spent most of today there. They paddled in the water, built sandcastles on the small patch of sand, watched the sailing boats taking part in Cowes week, ate cheesy chips from the ‘shack’ and flew their kites in the nearby playing field.
We go to Monks Hill several times a year, it is a favourite location for a winter walk or a summer paddle. Parking is ample and free, with toilets open in day light hours and the shack open for refreshments at weekends and all week in the summer. There is a flat, buggy and bike friendly path along the shore to the nearby playground and sailing club, this path goes past a field that is often frequented by kite boarders (one day I will be brave enough to do this). Even in the winter there are often kayakers and hardy sailors in the water to watch and the views of the island are magnificent.
